Liposuction (Lipoplasty)

Many people are frustrated to discover that despite controlling their weight, diet, and exercise, they still have areas of disproportional fat deposits.

When choosing plastic surgeons for liposuction (lipoplasty) Dr. Stern has over 20 years of experience with re-contouring of the torso, extremities, and face and neck with suction assisted lipoplasty (liposuction ). He will discuss patient’s concerns and examine them, offering an individualized treatment plan. Liposuction surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, usually under general anesthesia for maximum patient comfort. A modification of tumescent technique is used, with sterile fluid used to separate the fat cells and minimize bleeding while narrow cannulas (metal tubes) aspirate the excess fatty tissue through small, inconspicuous incisions.

The procedure is meant to improve contour, not provide weight loss. Florida regulations permit 4000 cc of fat are permitted to be removed on an outpatient basis. 1000 cc of fat are permitted to be removed if liposuction is being performed with another open procedure. Fat cells get larger and smaller, but do not divide and multiply. Once removed, they are unable to regenerate.
